Tattooed Anal Helicopter
I finally got the Telecaster back yesterday and this is what it looks like. Keith came over last night and introduced us to Mitch Hedburg. Very funny man. Also ded. I've been thinking about how weird it is to like a song I would have hated years ago. Like "Doctor, My Eyes". I still hate the mellow congas but the guitar solo can't be denied. That's Jesse Ed Davis. I wanted to name Johanna Jesse Ed Davis but Kris vetoed. Oh, and it's in F and you can't hate any song in F. Does anyone else like "The Flame" by Cheap Trick? I'm making a cd of sad songs and it's on there. I've also been thinking about this whole Desert Island Disc thing and I realize my list would change at least every hour. Keith has my battery-operated turntable so I would have to get that back before I got stranded. I would be bringing vinyl (natch!). Here goes the big 10 list posted at 11:35 pm. Oh, and I have to have at least 10. I'd wear one pair of underwear for the rest of my life to have room for 10 albums.
1. Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
2. Abbey Road - Beatles
3. Odessey and Oracle - Zombies
4. Funhouse - Stooges
5. The Fabulous Style Of - Everly Brothers
6. Otis Blue - Otis Redding
7. Oar - Alexander Spence
8. Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan
9. Blonder and Blonder - The Muffs
10. Ramones - Ramones
Fuck! I left out Badfinger, Big Star, John Coltrane, The Byrds, Miles Davis, Teenage Fanclub, Tin Machine, The Replacements, Captain Beefheart, The Johnny Burnette Trio, Elvis 1 and 2, The Cramps, Simon and Garfunkel, Nick Drake, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, The Searchers, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, Moby Grape, Allan Sherman, The Specials, Buffalo Springfield, George Jones, The Bee Gees, Ray Charles, The Louvin Brothers, Chuck Berry, Louis Jordan, The Who, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Cream, Blind Faith, The Band, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fela Kuti, Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Nirvana, Black Flag, Hank Williams, Ravi Shankar, Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison, Liz Phair, Elton John, The Police, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Mathis, Gene Clark, Carole King, Taj Mahal, Hem, Little Walter (Matthau), Howlin' Wolf, Getz/Gilberto, The Monkees.....you get the picture. Kris and I are going away this weekend to re-connect and i'm really looking forward to it. Mattafayct, i'm counting the minutes! Respect to my boy, Keef who is headed to the Y.

I had no idea we had a mutual Hem appreciation thing goin' on. Sally Ellyson's got a great voice, and I love that they cover FOW's Radiation Vibe and So. Central Rain on No Word From Tom.
Have a great weekend, kids! Lemme know when you want that turntable back (what's that you say? "Yesterday"?)
Damn it, I tried to resist doing this, but here's a list of 10 island discs for the moment:
Love Supreme--Coltrane
Revolver--Beatles
White Album--Beatles
Hard Day's Night--Beatles
Tapestry--Carole King
Talking Book--Stevie Wonder
Goldberg Variations--Bach
Dick's Picks 4 (2-13-70)--Dead
Dick's Picks 3 (5-22-77)--Dead
Music for Airports--Eno
Wait, the guy who has to run the a/c 2 degrees colder than I was ever used to b/c of his records would bring vinyl to a deserted island?
I love The Flame. But you knew that. It reminds me of the summer of '88 driving around in a white '71 Datsun 240Z that was more Bondo than steel. (But damn it looked good at night) I drove all the way down to Miami in it that summer with a busted radiator to see Cheap Trick. Susan, me, and 8 gallons of water. And we made it. Because we were the Bad Girlz (with a "Z"--Get it?)
Let's not bring the sad cd with us this weekend ok? Woo hoo. Just a few hours and we're resort bound!!!
Hope you guys had a swell weekend. I had to change a couple of items on that floating 10 list, how could I live without Astral Weeks by Van, or Dylan's Blood on the Tracks, or Electric Ladyland, or Kind of Blue by Miles, or Abbey Road, or The Band's self-titled second album, or George's All Things Must Pass, etc.
But a solor-powered desert island dwelling must also have a big screen TV and a collection of favorite movies on DVD, don't even get me started there...
No Rolling Stones??!! Are you kidding??!!
