Paint It Black, You Devil.

I was supposed to play the Quillo Theater in WPB tonight but the weather isn't so hot and they decided to cancel us. Oh, well....back to the Stones. Big album: Get Yer Ya-Yas Out. This might have been my second Stones album. I remember getting it in some long-gone store near Commercial and Federal. I wore out my original copy (still have it though). I learned how to play guitar to it and I used to practice the drums to it. I used to open my window in my room and blast the neighborhood with me doing a Charlie Watts. There is so much great Mick Taylor on it but I was sad to learn some of it's overdubbed.

So anyway, Pete and I went to see Shine A Light and we were disappointed. First of all, the sound was real distorted and VERY guitar heavy. There were certain songs where you had to strain to hear the drums. And the mix was way compressed. The instruments were constantly fighting for sonic space. Second, the movie was mostly the Mick Jagger Show. Martin Scorsese would rather show the back of Mick's head for ten minutes than to feature the other members. Even though he's just a hired gun, Daryl Jones (their bass player) was only shown when he was standing near one of the other guys or when he was introduced. Not much Charlie. either. And whoever wrote the set favors Some Girls. I'm complaining but there were some bright spots. Keith did You Got The Silver and that was great. It was nice to see the Stones (or some of them) on the big screen. After the movie, Pete and I downed some fast food and had a good talk about our current state of musical affairs. Pete has always been a good friend and I was reminded of that. It reminded me of when he'd visit me in San Francisco and how he came to Denver to help me out on a gig.

Wow, lots of great moments in those photos: holding a tiny little bundle of JoJo...hanging with Horvath, ready to form the world's next power trio...going all Anthem Of The Sun at the Bamboo Room (gonna miss that place)...posing with the Missus before getting Skippy at the NAMI show...the Women's March in Washington...and where the hell did those school photos come from, you actually have the yearbook??? Insane. Is that 6th grade, or 7th? I'm thinking 6th. By 7th grade I was smoking pot and smiling for photos a lot more. You look exactly as I remember from back then. Mork from Ork.

Denver was something else, eh? Wonder where Pat is now and what he's doing. You guys had some great songs, I still remember several. Say Goodbye, Private Crisis, etc. That was a fun gig, for the lucky few who showed up to see it. Wax Trax, a good vinyl shop.

About the movie, Keef sounded better on vocals for his token two numbers than Mick did all night! I was pissed when the film kept interrupting a great version of Keef singing Connection, just to show some random interview clips. Mick and Martin seemed determined to not focus on anyone else in the band. I'm thinking of the Last Waltz movie. Mick = Robbie Robertson?

Speaking of that, dig that Levon dvd.

Hey,
Did you see your boyfriend Bill Kreatzmenn is coming to the culture room?

Actually, I looked more like Mindy, Sailor. Those pics were from 7th grade. Should I post the 8th grade ones? I'm totally tempted to post what you wrote in my yearbooks, Buck Dharma.

Pat is fine and well. We saw him last time we were in 'Frisco. He was/is a great songwriter. I miss him too. I wish I had pix from that night. I just have the viddy somewhere.I think I single-handedly supported Wax Trax when I was there. I still see their price stickers when I rifle through Johanna's college fund. Mono Sgt. Pepper anyone? When I talked to Kris about the Mick Jagger show, she saw the Last Waltz connection, too.

Break out that video from Denver and I'll give your Larry King fabs/cirque interview tape back. "And George, where were you when John died?" "No, this is Ringo."

Just found a Rahsaan disc that belongs to you too. Rip Pig or something...and whatever I wrote about Buck Dharma is true.

Since you've brought the yearbooks out of storage, I am reminded at the fact that you really did have a girlfriend named "Sandi" who dotted her i's with a circle.

Bwahahahahaha!

I never did understand that.
